Who did we ask?

Idea 14of 22Builds onEvery 4th name on the list

Ask everyone the same way

Is a fair choice of people enough to trust the answers?

Today you'll discover

  • what “the same way” includes
  • plans that mix two ways
  • why mixed answers can't be added up

Think firstSix ways a survey was run

Half the class answers out loud, half on paper. Can the answers be added up?

Decide first, then press Next. For each plan ask: was every answer collected alike?

Six plans in a pile and two columns: asked the same way, and not the same way. All fill in one paper form, one question read to all and every answer written at once move into the same way. Half out loud and half on paper, two groups with two questions, and some answers written a month late move into not the same way.

The big idea

Every answer must be collected the same way, or the answers can't be added together.

For exampleSame paper form, same words, same day for everyone. Then a Grade 4 answer and a Grade 5 answer mean the same thing.

Easy to get wrongBeing consistent includes who asks, when they ask, and how the answers are written down, not only the words of the question.

Key word
