The Sugar Bush
You’re helping an Anishinaabe family in the spring of 1600Goal: enough sugar for the year — and be at the lake when the fish come
Late March. Warm days, freezing nights — the maple sap runs, and your family has moved to its sugar bush, the same one as every spring. Eighty trees are tapped. But the sap does not run forever, and the fish camp at the lake will not wait. Numbers here are simulated; the seasonal round is real.
