Plan a year on the land.

An Anishinaabe family, about 1600, moves with the seasons: sugar bush in spring, fish camp in summer, rice beds in fall, hunting grounds in winter. Decide how many days go to each. The land sets the rules — sap only runs in spring, rice only ripens in fall, and a big winter group empties the forest around it. Numbers are simulated.

Days at the fish camp (summer)
Days at the rice beds (fall)

The other 265 days are winter hunting.

Enough for the year

Try 24 people through the winter: meat per hunter drops, because game is spread thin in snow. That is why the summer camp split into small family groups every fall — a plan, not a wander (A3.1).
