Idea 14of 22Builds onBuild a building from its three views
The most cubes that fit two views
With only a front and a side view, how big could the building be?
Today you'll discover
- how tall each stack is allowed to be
- why you can't add the views' squares
- the biggest building that fits
Think firstFront 2, 1. Side 2, 1. No top view.
What is the most cubes a building with these two views could have?
Decide first, then press Next. Each stack must fit under its column's number and its row's number.
A front view of columns 2 then 1 and a side view of 2 then 1; the top view is a question mark. A line says 5 different buildings fit. On the right, the building with the most cubes: 2 at the front left and 1 on each other square, 5 cubes.

The big idea
For the most cubes, make each stack as tall as both its column and its row allow.
Why it happensA stack taller than its column's number would make the front view taller. A stack taller than its row's number would change the side view.
Easy to get wrongDon't add the two views' squares. A cube can show in both views but is still only one cube.
Key word
