Sample Sleuth

A headline lands on your desk. Somewhere behind it is a survey. Your job is to work out whether that survey can actually carry what the headline says.

You can put four questions to any survey, as many times as you like. Then you file one of three verdicts. Watch out: a survey can choose people perfectly fairly and still be written up wrongly — and a survey that asked one corner can still name the right winner by luck.
