Values shape a budget

Can two different budgets both be right?

Today you'll discover

  • how two plans can both balance
  • how values show in a budget
  • how to read what someone values

Think firstMaya and Omar each have $25

Maya gives $10 to a shelter; Omar spends $15 on paints. Whose $25 budget is wrong?

Decide first, then press Next. Compare which line is biggest in each plan.

Maya's budget: $25 allowance in; out, animal shelter $10 (give), save for camp $10 (save), snack $5 (want). The working shows $25 − $25 = $0: balanced. Then Omar's: paints for his art $15 (want), save $5, snack $5, also balanced. The last step shows Lucas's $30: save for a guitar $20, snack $5, comic book $5.
