From improper fraction to mixed number

How else can you write 7/4?

Today you'll discover

  • what is left over
  • why 7/4 and 1 3/4 are equal

Think firstA baker has 7 quarter-pies

How many whole pies can she make, and what is left?

Decide first, then press Next. Fill one whole at a time.

Two pie-strips side by side, cut into fourths, seven fourths shaded. A bracket marks the first full whole; the fourths are counted; then 7/4 = 1 3/4 is written. The last step shows ten thirds over four strips.
