Decide first, then press Next. Read each question as if you had no opinion yet.
Six survey questions in a pile and two columns: fair question, and pushes an answer. Which recess game is best, how many hours do you sleep and which fruit should we buy move into fair. Isn't tag the best game, wouldn't longer recess be great and most kids hate homework move into pushes an answer. The last step asks about a question on pools.

The big idea
A fair question lets every answer be equally easy; a leading question hints what to say.
Compare themLeading: “Isn't tag the best game?” Fair: “Which recess game do you like best: tag, soccer, skipping or other?”
Easy to get wrongA fair question also asks one thing at a time. “Do you like recess and lunch?” has no fair answer for someone who likes only one.
Key word
- leading question
- a question that hints at the answer the asker wants, like “Isn't tag the best?”
